Today I made a prototype for my organic lavender filled felt sachets. Currently, I'm rethinking shapes and sizes. This one is about 2.5"x4". Ideally, the edges will be pinked into a zig-zag... or if i leave the edges straight a border of bright ric-rac will be sewn around the pouch.

A Trip Down Memory Lane via Old Sketches...
june 2001, charline packs up a suitcase and moves to nyc.
she misses her friends and spends a lot of time thinking about them.
she makes some new ones that she adores;
but she never forgets about all the fun times she had with her old friends
from snowboarding trips to masquerade balls.
I spent some time this afternoon looking through old sketchbooks and journals. There were a lot of illustrations that shocked me, made me laugh, and even made me tear up a little.
Above are some of the sketches from over the years and miles.

A PNW Icon
Ink (sumi) on canvas paper
The face of a slug
My friend Jill is writing a Pacific Northwest children's story with a character who happens to be a Banana Slug. I was inspired by Jill's story and started this drawing this morning.
This is the first stage of my banana slug drawing. It is sumi ink on canvas paper. I'm really excited to lay some color down; this little guy (well, not so little since he is about a foot long) is going to be very bright.
happy slime trails!

Sweater Weather
Chlorophyl's last hold on my sun gold tomato plant.
Warm legs in knitted tights.
Ah, fall fashion. One of my wool skirts.
Romantic notions of the new season:
Chilly mornings that have my sleepy toes looking for my slippers on the floor beside my bed
The puff of white breath dispersing into the dark
Sipping warm spiced mead with the family
Oven roasted potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onions, and beets
Warm milk with a hint of sugar and a dusting cinnamon before bedtime

Some Pierogies
Steak, Potato, and Cheese Pierogies.
These are so easy to make and worth every minute.
Dough
2 c flour
1/2 c water
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
Filling:
Any variation of mashed potatoes. For mine I made fresh mashed potatoes but also added some left over goodies that I had in the fridge:
3 russet potatoes - boiled and mashed
1 1/2 c chopped steak - already cooked
1 c cheese dip - made of parmesan, swiss & cream cheese
Directions:
Mix the ingredients for the dough together. Knead on a lightly floured surface until the dough is smooth and then let it rest for 30 mins. Roll out the dough to the thickness of a 1/8 inch.
Combine all your ingredients for your mashed potatoes.
Cut out rounds of dough with a cookie cutter or a drinking glass. For 2 inch circles, fill with a generous teaspoon of the potato mixture. For 3 inch circles, fill with a tablespoon of potato mixture. Fold the dough in half and pinch together the sides to seal the filling inside the dough.
Boil for 8 minutes, drain, then brown the pierogies in a skillet with butter & sauteed onions. Serve with sour cream.
viola
happy food!

Time in a Bottle II
Sand Septopus
A dear friend of mine is getting married this November. She had always been a supporter of my artwork, especially anything septopus related, and I'll be getting the chance to see her in the next week while I'm in Japan. I'm excited to bring my friend a Char Char Original that she and her soon to be hubby inspired.

Happy Love.
